I often find myself unsure of whether or not some words should have a hyphen separating two component words. Take the word ‘facelift’, for example. This would not be written ‘face-lift’. Here are a few more words which you might not be sure of:

-Well-being: this refers to someone’s health/wellness, and is hyphenated

 

 

-Bodyguard: this refers to a person who protects specific individuals from those who might try to attack them

 

-Hellhole: this refers to a place that is so bad that it resembles hell

 

-Overstretch: this refers to a situation where something is in short supply, and must be distributed among many (food resources might be overstretched in Ethiopia, for example)
